Abstract

Background: folic acid deficiency during pregnancy can trigger premature birth, impaired fetal growth, and low birth weight. Therefore, pregnant women need to ensure adequate folic acid intake to prevent these problems by consuming foods rich in folic acid or supplements recommended by medical personnel. Providing education to young women is important to prevent anemia. The study conducted at SMAN 3 Sukoharjo aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using educational videos in increasing female students' knowledge regarding the role of folic acid before conception. This Quasi Experimental Research applies a Non Equivalent Control Group design. The total sample was 88 class XII female students, divided into two groups: experimental with 44 female students and control with 44 female students. Groups were determined randomly, while subject selection was carried out through purposive sampling. Questionnaires were used as a data collection tool, while data analysis was carried out using the Mann-Whitney test. The results of data analysis prove an increase in average knowledge in the experimental group, from 57.23 to 91.9 after providing education via video, while in the control group average knowledge increased from 64.75 to 85.8 through lectures. The results of the analysis show a p value (0.001) <0.05 and significant at ? = 0.05, this study concludes that education via video has proven effective in increasing female students' understanding of the role of folic acid in pre-conception health.
